Student Reps

An email came around this afternoon about the appointment of class reps – 2 per  class.  Stikes me that it would be a good idea to post photos of these people on their course sites – then the students will know who their class reps are.  Photos would already exist – they must have had one taken for their ID cards.

It might not be a bad idea to add a discussion forum to the class site as well, with student-only access.  Students can post their concerns etc without having to actually make contact with a class rep.  The email expressed concern that there was little participation in the scheme in some classes.

I’ve seen one site that has listed its student reps – no photos or contact details,  but at least the names are there – good stuff!

Well, this blog is getting some traction – I note that at least one FOC course put student-rep. mug shots up on its Learn site soon after this post. Lets see if more follow suit?

I think we should flag the addition of student-rep photos and a student-only forum to be considered as additions to the rubric when we review it at the end of the year. ( Note to self – write that down somewhere!) I didn’t think of it when I was writing the rubric but they strike me as important to the student-centeredness ( I know, I know, that’s a really clumsy term, but I don’t have another one handy!) of a course site.

How about a Writeboard on Basecamp for developing the rubric?
